Background
The WALX education Team have over 100 years of combined skill and knowledge of delivering fitness and rehabilitation programmes. They have spent the past 14 years creating walking programmes for the clinical arena. They have trained thousands of Physiotherapists and Occupational therapists to deliver the WALX Programmes
After 16 years of creating innovative walking programmes to over 1/2 million people in the UK, the WALX Clinical Team decided it was time to develop the perfect pole handle. The ergonomic design not only supports the entire hand, it fits perfectly for all sizes. The handles have not only been designed in the UK, they are manufactured in the UK.
Reducing Carbon Footprint:
We were also acutely aware that nearly all the walking poles sold in the UK were being shipped from China and Taiwan. With the knowledge we now have regarding climate change and carbon footprint, we decided we should be manufacturing in the UK. The poles themselves are made of the highest grade of 7075 alloy that is used in aircraft industry. The  seamless tubing is used for maximum strength so when your weight is transferred through the poles. They not only absorb the impact but return back to shape as you lift the pole.
Unfortunately, all the alloy manufacturing has now ceased in the UK and moved to the Far East. We have worked in partnership on this project with Fizan in Italy. Fizan have been designing and making walking poles for over 80 years and are supplying the pole sections from one of the only alloy manufacturers left in Europe and not far from their factory. We would prefer to be using UK based manufacturers but at least they are only travelling hundreds of miles, not tens of thousands of miles.
